I've written 2 new GI animation tutorials to help simplify the whole process. They include IR+LC camera animation and IR+LC object animation.
No pages of complicated text, no downloads, just a simple idiot's guide to getting it right :)
They're new, up to date, and work every time (so far!).
I'm trying to match the settings from a real camera to the settings in the physical camera in v-ray. It's a night shot and I have the following details:
Exposure: 15 sec (15)
Aperture: f/5
Focal Length: 33 mm
ISO Speed: 100
I have ISO set to 100, f-stop set to 5 but I can't figure out how to work out the shutter speed. If I typed in 15 then it's 1/15 of a second which isn't what I'm looking for. Can anybody help clear this up?

Hi,
I'm trying to use proxies to render a very large area with 3d grass.
Every proxy is generated from poligonal hair of a small zone of the large area.
The problem is that when I load all the proxies together, Cinema doesn't render all of them.
Why?
I create every proxy using vrmesh exporter tag (with the option "don't delete vrmeshes) and vrmeshExporter in a custom directory. Then I create the proxy and load the vrmesh just created.
Thanks

I've just installed the latest Vray demo today..and i'm trying to get my head round Vray in general but mostly materials.

I've read through the online help and a lot of threads here, but i'm just not getting certain aspects of the displacement material.

My character model(11.3Kpolys) has an 8k very finely detailed displace map(made in Zbrush)..when i render with AR3..i use intensity(centered)SPD and set subdivision level to 6..all that lovely detail comes.

But i don't want to render with AR i want to make use of the lovely sss in Vray, problem is i can't for the life of me get the Displace in Vray to show/use the fine detail.

Here's my settings for the displace material:

"Use as Subdivision Surface" ON...guess this needs to be on?
Parameters:
view dependent: ON
Edge length:1
Max Subdivs:32(default) have tried both higher(64)+lower(6) values, both seem to make no difference.. only changes rendertime

I would have thought that i would only need to set the max.subdivs level to 6(the same as i used in AR) but i guess i'm missing something here.:search:

Cheers for any advice

hi... just a question, in 1.25 are no material preview scenes...
i am not sure but i think in 1.2 or somewhen there were some scenes, not?
(to put into library/materialpreview)

i did some materialpreview scenes myself because i found that the c4d built in previews didnt match my render results very well...
but i was never sure if they were really good. (lightning/brightness, speed of preview)
the goal was to have better impression of reflection & specular and
also to have a sphere / object / cube / rounded cube / plane (a bit tilted too, to see some ref/spec here)
plus maybe some for the specials like sss etc

it would be nice if there were official vrayforc4d materialpreviews
any info on that? are they existing?

consequently, the ies doesn't work - i.e. only works when i copy the ies file into my tex folder first and link the ies-light path accordingly, as expected.
i couldn't find any wrong preference settings though.

does anyone have a clue what it is i'm doing wrong?

I have a 2000 frame animation due, and most of it has been IR/LC camera anim (following Strat's tutorials), with no problems.

There are a few frames that require object animation, and I've followed Strat's IR/LC tutorial as well, (for the object animation) where the IRcache is calculated using the "Anim prepass/ follow camera path", and the LC is baked into the IRmap as well. I am pretty sure that I've followed the tutorial exactly, but I keep getting individual IRmap cache files for each frame - not one file fora all frames!!

The "save multiframe file" checkbox below "anim prepass"mode selector was originally actually greyed out, but if I switched to "multiframe incremental" it became selectable, and stayed selected (although still greyed out) when going back to "anim prepass".

This is nowhere mentioned in the tutorial to be an issue, so I'm really perplexed as to what is happening - shouldn't I get a single IRmap cache file??

I'd rather light it with an HDRI, but because the Theatre has got no natural light, it is impossible for the HDRI to get in there

Because of the new upgrade bundle policies from Maxon (forcing me to upgrade to full studio if I want mograph *and* S&T) - I have decided that I need to stay with R11.5 for the foreseeable future (i.e. long-term, perhaps *very* long-term)

There is really nothing in R12 that is essential to me, so I'm fine with staying where I am - maybe I'll even buy SpeedMud, or SurfaceSpread instead, and actually increase my toolset, rather than limit it - and for a cheaper price as well.

My main concern is that Vray will not be updated past 1.2.5 for R11.5.

Please tell me that the Vray team in concerned about the new Maxon upgrade policies as well , and that you are aware that many VrayForC4D users are in the architectural visualization niche probably won't be upgrading any time soon.

As I see it - pushing forward with only developing Vray4c4d for R12 will likely be for a much smaller user-base than with R11/R11.5... I wonder if this is something you have thought about as well?

I just want to let you know that, although I might discontinue upgrading C4D, I will 100% certainly be upgrading to next (non-free) version of Vray... as long as it still works with R11.5

Can anyone comment on this issue?

Hi all,

can anyone please explain, why my red light gets only
visible, when its coming from the side?
When its placed a bit at opposite of the camera
I have no visible light.

And why are the "defaults" are set up in that way, that
you get "no" or "verry bad results" when starting.

And would it be possible generally to manage values behind the scenes
in that way, that I don't always have to struggle with extrem values and have to
test values in Ranges from 0.0001 up to 500.000.000 which would take months
to get a good, or even to get any result.
F.e. one time a light intense of "6" overbrights all. And in other situations (like fog)
I need values of "50.000" to see an effect. I would never come to the idear,
that I need a light intense of "50.000" to get a visible light!
On the other side, you have to deal with values of "0.001" to get results and
"0.002" allready results in no effect. How should I know, when to choose which
values?

It would be nice if there could be a Range from "0% -100 %" for all setups.
(And VRay makes the mathematic conversations for adjusting in the background)
So that:
"0" means "no" effect
50% means "half" and
100% means max" effect

And this Range should be validate for "transparency", "Specular", "Reflections"
"Light Intensitys", "All Quality Aspects", "Shadow Density", "SSS-Effects" ................etc.

I have absolutely no knowledge of programming and maybe thats totally cracy
and impossible, but it is a wish that could make life much more easy!

regards

Hi all.

Can anyone point me to some decent VRay walkthrough examples? Doesn't matter what app they were created in as long as the renderer is VRay. I'm trying to convince a client to go down this route and personally I only ever do 3D stills. I've done camera walkthroughs with Advanced Render before but not with VRay so I little in the way of examples to show the client to impress him. I just want him to see the possibilities?

Anyone have any links?

Thanks in advance.
